Prenatal Classes at The Pelvic Studio

At The Pelvic Studio, we’re strong advocates for exercise during pregnancy and we’re here to support you through this movement journey! Our pregnancy-friendly group classes are designed to keep you feeling strong, supported, and confident throughout your pregnancy journey. Whether you're in your first trimester or nearing the 40-week mark, our classes are suitable at any stage of pregnancy.


Pregnancy Pilates/Exercise Classes:

Our dedicated Prenatal Classes create a special sense of community, bringing together mums-to-be in a welcoming, encouraging environment. These classes, 8-10 participants, each week your physiotherapist will take you through a group warm up, including pelvic floor muscle training, a series of exercise "pods”, and a group mat series. You will also receive pregnancy related pelvic floor education throughout the class weeks, including information on pelvic floor and core in pregnancy, managing pelvic girdle pain, labour positions and more.

We also offer intimate Small Group Classes which are smaller than our larger pregnancy groups, allowing personalised attention and a more tailored exercise course. While these sessions are open to all patients (not just mums-to-be), they still include the same quality education and training as our dedicated pregnancy classes. The main difference you'll notice is the times they’re scheduled throughout the day.

What to expect in our classes:

  • Functional group exercises using cable machines, weights, kettlebells, medicine balls, and bags

  • Pilates-inspired movements with reformers, mats, resistance bands, and slider boards

  • Gentle stretching and yoga poses to ease tension and improve mobility

  • Focused pelvic floor and deep core exercises to support your body now and post-birth

There’s no set term or start date so join us whenever you’re ready! We do recommend aiming for a series of 8 sessions to really feel the benefits.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) recommends muscle strengthening exercise at least 2 days per week (on non-consecutive days).

Pre-Class Requirements

In order to attend our classes we recommend a prenatal assessment with one of our pelvic floor physiotherapists, or exercise clearance from your anetenatal team. We strongly believe an assessment is a ‘standard’ part of antenatal care. In other words, we believe all women who are pregnant should have a pelvic assessment at some point in their pregnancy - preferably in the early stages from 12 weeks onwards - irrespective of whether you experience any issues or dysfunction. This assessment is to prevent rather than treat the common issues that occur during and after pregnancy.

 Private health rebates apply and often range between $10-$25 per class, and in some cases even the full cost of the session
